Odd DNS Issue

I have an odd problem with my acer 5672 laptop. The other day on boot up I got a generic host service has to close close error. Then I couldn't connect to the internet. I attempted to repair the connection but it failed at clearing the dns cache. I ran command prompt and did ipconfig /flushdns but the error : IP Configuration Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Before this I got an error with the Data Execution Prevention utility not allowing the IP config utilty to run. I recently disabled that though. I am connected to my wireless network and can still send and receive data from computer to computer but no internet functionality. I am really stumped at this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes a simple restart works, have you tried that? If that dont work restart the router. Junk gets messed up sometimes...

A restart didn't work..I restarted...restored it to an earlier date...Tried it in safe mode, and updated drivers. Ill try the fixes and see if they work. Thanks for the input

I tried the lsp fix and it said I do not need it. I tried the winsock xp fix... the ipconfig utility needs to close error came up in the middle of the fix but it finished. I restarted and I still get the same problem. I just need to flush / clear the dns so I can finish repairing the connection.

ok....does anyone have any other ideas / fixes? This happened just after an automatic windows security update. Im trying to keep reformatting a very last attempt.
