Odd problem with monitor...

My friend has me helping her with a problem that she is having with her monitor so here goes. If she rrestarts her computer the monitor won't work afterwards. The light is on and it's hooked the the computer but not even the little screen saver will come on to say it has power. I figured it must have been a driver issue but I downloaded a new driver from Dell's site for it to no avail. She has a Dell Dimension 3000 w/ XP SP2 by the way. THe monitor will begin working eventually but she says it takes a couple days which I find weird. I decided it might have been a card problem so I hooked up a known working monitor and it works fine. SO, what would make a monitor act this way? ANy help is appreciated since I'm stumped (obviously)

Nothing. If one monitor works perfectly, the other one will too.

I have seen this before. Since that system is about 3 or 4 years old, I would say it's just the monitor getting ready to die.

I have had monitors boot one time, and the next time just go poof.

It's usually a resistor or a capacitor giving up the ghost.

I was kinda getting the feeling it might have been the monitor about to take a dump. Unfortunately, I don't have a different computer to hook it up to in order to check. Thanks for the input people!! :D
