I know some of you have had this issue in the past, so I'm looking for some advice... I have an OEM version of Vista and my MOBO is dying. I want to "replace" it... How do I go around activating it again?
If you can't activate online, then call up Microsoft with the activation number they give you, tell them you replaced a component and had to reinstall. They will give you a code to enter and then it's activated.
Yea, just tell them the board took a crap and you didnt trust the same model board again. I,ve replaced almost everything on a OEM CD/DVD before over a period of time and they never really gave me a problem. Unless you get someone that cant understand hardly anything you say. Its like they outsourced support to planet Pluto or something, but then again I think they disqualified Pluto as a Planet.
Just hope you dont get Mr. YourAnus at support. They will jabber off a sentence, 1/3 english, 1/3 made up and 1/3 a different language - your like what the hell did you just say! No most of the time it goes fine.
Yes it's toll free. I had a similiar situation with winXP home OEM. I switched out everything and i used an old SN (off a computer that didnt work) and i got some problems. I called up India (i mean microsoft call center) and the lady hooked it up. She was nice...
