I am in need of a OS an like my current computer, i want XP prof, but I do not want to spend 300$ on it. So I see on ebay they have XP prof for like 25$, but its OEM, and i was wondering what your thoughts on OEM is?

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer... this basicaly means its a CD in a little puch with a key stamped across it, no packaging, no books, no instructions, nothing. If you are looking for cheap, then go for it, if you are looking for helpful then perhaps not.

Be careful on eBay, check to see wether or not the disc has been used, if it has you wont be able to activate it and you will be slightly screwed. You want SEALED, BRAND NEW, OEM

I hope you meant 125$, If you meant 25$, then that is not a legit windows xp pro...They just dont sell that low. 125$ is a more reasonable price.

IMO i would get it from a actuall store, they have it the same pricec pretty much, (online or offline) for example newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116053
5$ more, except you get the newegg goodness and normally decently fast shipping. if you have a frys electronics around you, if you buy any other PC part from there you can get it for 100$ oem. you have to buy antoher pc part though. (10$ sound cards work well =P )

Opps, I acedently linked you the 64bit eddition, but you get the idea, just make sure to buy the normal 32bit edition(assmuning thats what you want) and it'll be the same as any other XP.

The OEMs are usually installable, the only real differerance as far as I am aware is that there is often a variation in drivers from the vanilla version, so that it *just works* for particular models of computer.

You will also get a piece of either working or non-working non-peripheral hardware shipped with the OEM, to comply with the licence, which will hike up your postage cost, so be careful.

Be careful to not choose ones that say 'DELL Only' or 'Compaq Only' etc etc, as there may well be a reason for the warning ;)
