My sister just bought a dell pc with vista and she's tried to install her Office 2000, but it won't install. Anyone have a clue on how to get it installed? The dell tech support couldn't resolve this issue. Any help is appreciated.

I think this is the problem, one the Windows Vista she just bought on her PC is a 64 bit Operating System a 64 bit OS is supported by a 64 bit compatible processor, and 64 bit DLL's. Microsoft Office 2000 has 32 Bit DLL's. The problem is that a 64 bit Operating System cannot support 32 bit DLL's. So that could be the problem. 32 bit architecture doesn't support a 64 bit OS. So you may need to buy the latest version of Office, or get a 32 bit version of Vista.

Windows Vista will only run Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office 2007. It will not run Microsoft Office XP because it was designed for a 32 bit architecture on Windows XP. The copy of Vista Business I have on the computer in my signature has Microsoft Office 2003 on it, and it was upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007 this morning. Install them, and if they don't work, you might as well try downloading updates from the Microsoft website.

You might want to download a trial of Office 2003/2007, or you might want to order a trial CD which is absolutely free, but can take between 3 and 5 working days to get delivered, although the download is about 700Mb. I think it is in executable and ISO format, from external sources, but only as a trial CD from the Microsoft site, the only site I can guarantee where the download is legal.

it appears it worked for some and some needed workaround for outlook and word. google for them. there is another way to get it to work 100% is to run virtual machine solely to run office.

Thanks

You'd think with the High Technology Microsoft has they could work around this. I think they have to their advantage. I mean what's the difference between office 2000 and 2003 but a few added features. Maybe they just want people to buy a newer version of Office? I think so. If anyone does figure out a way to make it work please let me know. Where there's a will there's a way.

Thanks again all,

Eddie
