Of course not! No offence, but you'd have to be pretty silly to believe that...

The default docx isn't supported by older versions without the Compatibility pack. Save it as type "Word 97-2003 Document" to ensure maximum compatibility.

I havent read this entire thread, but with Office 2007, you can save files in the .doc format, so any other version of Word can open it.

Which of course does the same thing as saving it as a .doc in the first place.

Yes, but if you intend to open files created by others using Office 2007 you can't guarantee that they'll have changed the file format from the default docx.
