hi guys i have a full retail copy of office home and student 2007 it is the 3 user license edtion.

i was running all the 3 licenses on my home pc and laptops, i have since bought 2010, my friend wants to buy my office 2007, so am i right in thinking that now i have uninstalled all 3 copies for 2007, that he can now use the 3 licenses

The keys are linked to those computers. Since they have already been activated they will not work on other computers.

so its not like you can use the 3 licenses on any pc at a given time, once they have been activated there stuck on those specific pcs

Install 2007 on the new laptop.

Attempt to activate, it should fail but give the option to call MS.

Ring them, when the automated voice asks how many computers you have installed it on answer 1 or 2. You will then get an activation code.

Now and again, the automated voice puts you through to a human  explain the situation and you're good to go.

Done it a number of times but not for Office 2007

I don't believe this is correct. The licenses can be reused on other machines, so long as MS doesn't detect that one of the user licenses is attempting to run on multiple machines. One license, one device at a time. I've done this myself with different single user licenses. He'll have to reactivate and maybe call Microsoft, although I've never had to make a phone call for Office products.

Since OP uninstalled Office from all his machines, I don't see a problem here.

I believe it's like a retail key, isn't it? Any 1 pc at a time per key.

yes

I read the license and it states:

Some changes to your computer components or the software may require you to reactivate the software. THE SOFTWARE WILL REMIND YOU TO ACTIVATE UNTIL YOU DO.

So, basically, when your friend installs a license on one of his machines, MS will notice the hardware change and require him to reactivate. That's standard anyway.

thanks mep so do you think i should try it in another pc that it has never been installed in and if it activates using the original product key i should be ok to sell it to him.

thanks alot hopefully it wont be useless after all :)

Upgrade licenses and some of the OEM stuff that ships with Dell's etc are a little tricky. Since you have retail licenses you should be okay. Let us know if you have problems though. I'd be interested to see if this doesn't work out.

I'm a bit interested to see how it works out as well. I had a copy that was ties to my laptop and after I reformatted it it wouldn't install because it had already been used.

ok guys im going to try it later tonight in a desktop its never been installed to i will post back the result tommorow, thanks for all the advice

just an update about the license re use for 3 version edition.

installed office 2007 on a pc it had never previously been installed in and it went in and activated fine over internet, so im certain it is 3 licenses with the one product key but the licenses are not locked to any pc.

it seems like you can install on any 3 pcs at a time.

so as i said its for sale if anyones interested on gumtree as well.
