We have all heard about the release of the Intel Core i7 CPU. The release date for it will be Monday, November 17, 2008.

State your thoughts about here in The Official Intel Core i7 Thread.

I think the i7 will smoke A**. I just wish I had the money to buy that kind of stuff.

Well that's the thing. Only in these forum/enthusiast circles do people care about bleeding edge. Most people in the real world care about price and value, which makes AMD still a viable alternative.

But yea, i7 is gonna kick ass. It's a shame it doesn't drastically improve games, though, because that's my main reason for upgrading my computer.

Good point.

I'm only 13 so I don't have a job, plus I don't get that much money from my parents, uncle, etc. so it's hard for me to even upgrade.

its a complete waste of money... I mean 6GB of DDR3? Thats like freakin 500$ for ram, 300$ for the mobo, and 300-1000$ for a damn proccesor? just stick with the C2D or the C2Q's.

Well I read the motherboards would cost around $200-$280 then I check there is only 1 and the rest are over $300, then the i7 920 was suppose to be around $200 but its $300. Whats with the prices if they were both in the $200's I would get it but they both would run in $600's. I will just wait when the prices will drop, maybe wait and see what amd comes out with.

Yeah I gotta say untill games can actually use the 65nm C2Q I have zero interest in the new quads.

Show me 20 true quad-core ready games THEN I will start to salivate over the I7 till then its worthless to me.

The only good thing here is...price of DDR2 will go down so good time to upgrade your ram ^-^

There might not be 20 games that use all 4 cores but...I played Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway for about an hour and had CPU Monitor running in the background just to see what it needed from my CPU. The entire time all 4 cores were used. Core 1,2 & 3 were used between 20% and 60% the entire time. Not once did any core go below 20%. I would say they were between 40% and 55% for about 45 minutes of the hour. Core 4 was maxed the entire time I played. This game used all 4 cores from the minute I opened it. Software developers are starting to use all 4 cores with programs.;) Next time I will post some stats and maybe a screen shot but I forgot to record the data....and my BFG GTX 260 just died on me so I got to wait for a new Evga card I ordered out of anger:)

This processor is supposed to be different, 8 virtual cores and hyperthreading. From what I gathered from the articles I read the cpu can balance the load as opposed to a program specially being written for the use of multiple cores. So I think this equates to a massive improvement among cpu architecture. Also, on board memory controller a la AMD, finally. I guess it is supposed to crush AMD's line up.

I wonder if AMD will come up with anything new..

Athlon Duo 8000+ ! :p

No but seriously,
I like AMD.. for their prices and good performance.
