Official Photoshop Competition

Welcome to the computerforum.com photoshopping competition, a weekly event judged by our own members. The idea behind this competition is to allow anybody with an interest in image editing to show off their talents, and get some practice.

The Basic Setup

The competition works on a weekly rotation. That is, each week a new photo will be provided for editing. Members will then take that photo, and edit it to the best of their ability within the theme/parameters set by me, the adjudicator. The edited entries are be PM’ed to myself, following which 48 hours of voting on the anonymous entries takes place in a public poll. The winner is announced and has the privilege of deciding on the following week’s raw photo, within the guidelines set. This privilege can be waived at the discrecion of the weekly winner.

Weekly Rotation Timescale

Wednesday
The photo for editing will be submitted in this thread.

Sunday
Entries submitted via PM will be included in a voting poll, which will be made available for 48 hours.

Tuesday
The winner of the democratic vote will be announced, allowing time for the winner to submit to the adjudicator their choice for the new photo to edit.

Wednesday
The new weekly photo will be posted in this thread, to begin the cycle once more.

Rules

Guidelines for everyone

1. The raw photo will always be made available at a resolution of 800x600. Therefore, this will be the only resolution accepted for entries.

2. Any image that is deemed by the adjudicator to be indecent, offensive or potentially offensive with regards creed, colour, religion, sexual orientation or political motivation will not be allowed. Any part-image that conforms to any of the above will deem the entire image void. Current affair themes can be included, but will be judged on appropriateness before being accepted as an entry.

3. No logo, text, watermark or other marking will be allowed that may help identify the creator of the image for the purposes of vote fixing.

4. One entry per person per week. Once an image is submitted for a given week, no alterations or resubmissions may take place. Any image submitted and deemed inappropriate will exhaust that person's entry for that week.

5. Entries are accepted only via PM to the adjudicator and only by link to externally sourced images.

6. Participants may not vote for their own image. If this happens, either accidentally or deliberately, that participant will have their vote discounted.

7. In the event of a vote tie, the winner will be randomly generated by computer from the tied entries. Far more in keeping with the forum compared to rock paper scissors.

Guidelines for weekly winners

1. Weekly winners have until 23:59 GMT on the Wednesday to provide a picture for the following week’s competition.

2. If by this time no picture has been submitted, one will be submitted by the adjudicator.

3. Submitted raw images should conform to the same guidelines as edited pictures regarding decency.

This is a new idea, and the rules may be altered/clarified slightly as time goes on. The adjudicator reserves the right to alter the parameters of the competition at any time, but will only do so if benefit will be gained from it.

What should I use to make my picture?
GIMP: is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

Photoshop: the namesake of our competition, produced by adobe. A free trial is available at the link above and will allow full use of the software for 1 month
