Offline Antivirus

Ok so one of my buds got this new pc but he doesn't have an antivirus.
Now, which antivirus can i give him to use, since he doesn't have internet connection ?

the only thing i can think of right now that has an offline auto updater is norton, i know avg has one too but has issues when updating or what-not.
any ideas about an AV he can use so i can give him a virus def every week or so ?

Norton is very good for scanning and detecting infections, I use it personally but it doesn't success in removing all of the infections ;)

I think it's a good choice for a offline A-V. The only problem is that it's not free, but that's the price to pay to stay clean :)

why does he need antivirus if he isnt on the internet?

stop being stupid for once, any one with No AV can get infected from just a simple connection of an IPOD or mp3/mp4 player. if it wasn't cleaned.
that's why.
I want to use norton but apparently norton is not strict regarding low risk viruses.
The last time my friend was infected with w32.Dizan, while his pc seemed to work, all the exe's of his program were gone, thus causing errors.
so i guesss it's back to norton then ?

you could have responded without being a dick about it

try free antiviruses, like clamav, avast or antivir for your friend's pc. I think it's enough for low risk viruses.

Sorry only read first post, How can you get a virus if your not online? ex, Virus come from downloading stuff, or being hacked, No internet connection means your preety safe.

Norton is very good at detecting...

But again, you could use it with other anti-spyware, Ad-Aware 2007 Free edition is good for a anti-spyware :)

ok....
1st off...you cant get viruses/spyware if youre not connected to the intarweb. it just doesnt work.
secondly...how can you get offline updates at all? you have to DOWNLOAD definition files for updates, which means you have to have an internet connection.

youre so silly :P

Lol this is like the tenth time you're explaining haha.
People really need to read all of the conversation.

OF COURSE YOU CAN GET VIRUS WITHOUT INTERNET! INFECTED PORTABLE DRIVES SUCH AS USBs, CDROMs AND OTHER CAN BE INFECTED AND WILL INFECT YOUR COMPUTER.

yeah Webbenji i know, they dont understand anyhoo,
check THIS LINK
Trend Micro explains it all

speaking bout trend micro i have PcClin 2006, i'd probably use it even if the program is old the virus pattern will be new

well if you have flash drives/PMP's with viruses on them, shouldnt you be worrying about your own viral problems first, sillypants? :P
sorrrrrry for being logical.

Here is my page on virus:

As you can read, you can get infected while offline.

Jimkonow, you might not know that your USBs are infected... Smart*** ;)

So Patrcikv, what you are going to do is download the updates and install them on your friend's computer?
