I've always known my Cele'D has ran rather hot, but when I checked the temps just now it was 80C, its under 100% stress pretty much all the time cause I use the Folding@Home client, Is there any danger my computer will go up in flames??, its an old comp and would like to build a new one, but I still would rather not have it blow up, Do you reckon it worth a new Heatsink/fan

While they do run hot, yours seems to be *very* hot. Did you build the system yourself? If so, I'd check to make sure the CPU fan is running and there's no dust clogging the heat sink. If it's a pre-built, you can still check, but it may be a bit trickier.

If you feel comfortable doing so, you can also re-apply thermal paste to the CPU/heatsink.

Edit: By comparison, my Pentium D 940 runs at 31-32*C at Idle and rarely goes above 44*C under load.

Also if its really old it may be the thermal paste giving way so it doesn't have a good contact to the heatsink. Also do you have case fans?

It’s a Pre-built system {see sig} I have upgraded the graphics and ram obv since it was new. tbh I think I’m going to get hold of a gas can and give it a blow out, 4 years of dusty is prob just clogging it up, although its one if the strangest heatsinks I’ve seen

Yes your prob right, although I don’t think I can be bothered trying to get the thing off, and yes I have a rear exhaust fan, but no frontal intake fan, although there is a grill

Tbh if the CPU did die {as long as it didn't take the HDD with it} it would do me a favour then I have a need to build one, yay
