lol last night i tried to take the IHS off my cpu... to no avail, i think my razor is a bit dull, i ought to buy a new one... but in the process of trying to take off the IHS i totally bent the CPU pins... like two or three were in the middle and bent really bad. tried tweasers and they were too big! then, i tried the razor (to align them with the other processor pins... and THANK THE LORD i straightened them all! WOO!

lol! jesus I thought it was something MAJOR, that happens to me all the time:P , just have to be carefull when straightening them, some cpu's do even work with some pins off!

haha... uhh im not even chancing it if a pin falls off lol
definitely need a much thinner razorblade... this ones thin at the edge but then it gets thicker and it wont fit under the cpu's IHS.
:D

i thought i was screwed when i bent the pins on a chip a couple of weeks ago. it was just a cpu i had lying around and i accidently bent the pins. i took some plyers and bent them back and the system booted. amd k6-2 450mhz

Rofl, Some CPUs if you Want to Clock them Really Well you'll have to take them appart and just sWitch some cables

there isnt a single cable inside a CPU.... its all tiny traces and a wafer of silicon...

From a website:

A chip is also called an integrated circuit. Generally it is a small, thin piece of silicon onto which the transistors making up the microprocessor have been etched. A chip might be as large as an inch on a side and can contain tens of millions of transistors. Simpler processors might consist of a few thousand transistors etched onto a chip just a few millimeters square.

THat happened to me with an old Clereon 466mhz. I bent about 7 pins, and just crammed the CPU in the slot. The pins that where bent, bent completly flat. I booted the comp, and it showed up as 366MHZ :P

Haha ya that happened to me when I was outside tinkering with my dad's OLD computers. I had to realign them with a toothpick. I thought I was screwed also:o

Also, what is an IHS?

Done it before as well, usually get a credit card and try to straighten it out. I bent multiple rows once when I pulled off the HSF and the chip was GLUED to it (really od thermal paste). The chip was still locked in the socket, so when it got pryed out it really messed up the pins. After about an hour's work, it still worked. I never unstuck it from the HSF though...darn thermal paste is like bonding glue!

the metal part on top of the core on newer cpus:

motoxrdude, you have inspired me. i have 4-5 laptop processors with one pin different than standard socket 478, and dow i am going to break off or bend the bad pin, put it in and see what happens. :D :D

EDIT
wtf? this is my 478th post as well. weird.

once i did it

Once on my p4 2.4 478 i broke off a corner pin. but thanks to my mad soldering skills i soldered the pin back on.............DONT BELIVE ME? well just ask and ill post a picture ps it took like 3 hours to get it right

That is awesome- wish i had mad soldering skillz... I have an original Pentium (in sig below) it was invincible. I dropped it, corner with pins down- the pins stuck INTO my hardwood floor. bent a couple getting it out.

Wow that wouldve killed any intel of today. hmm ive never even considered that . hehe thats pretty cool.

hey if you have time would you agree given my sig that this power supply is good enough.

I know it's too late now but those 479 mobile CPUs aren't pin compatable (that's why they are 479 not 478 :P).

Did you end up getting the IHS off, or is it still on there?
its still on there.. i need a new razorblade. the one i have is blunt as hell... i tested it today i was opening some packages for my uncles computer and the thing wouldn't barely cut tape!
its all good i'll stop at a hardware store later and get one :D
btw.. i dont think my psu handles the 7900gtx in full load lol...
the air gets extremely hot coming out of the back of my psu while 3d05/06 is running.
AMAZING video card though! :D
