oh my god.

i know how to overclock... this is just a weird problem that ive never run into before.
also i can't seem to find any RAM timings in my bios. cpu-z reports 5-4-4-12 but my ram is supposedly rated at 4-4-4-12...
i figure a bios update would fix the problem with the bios not being able to change timings... but RAM isn't limiting me, and neither is my cpu... so i figure its got to be my bios settings or something.

haha... just never o/ced on an intel before, not that its a ton different.
 
fade, when you enter the bios, press CTRL + F1. Then go to the overclocking menu and timings should be there.

EDIT: Also may I ask why you got the 965G instead of the P? The G has integrated graphics and P doesn't. Did you need the integrated graphics?
 
okay, so i updated the bios its now at F5 right... which is most recent for 965G...
didn't help! im still getting the same errors!
its got to have something to do with my sata ports i just KNOW IT!

Raise the voltage. When it starts doing odd things or stops finding things it's usually not getting enough power. :confused:
 
haha its getting plenty of power. thats funny.
read the thread, i raised voltage from 1.000V at 2.21ghz to 1.325V at 2.26ghz.
theres no way a core 2 duo need 325mV for 60mhz increase.
i ordered from newegg.
i thought about sending it back, but w/e

Yes I did, probably about the same time you were banned :P

I had a similar problem with my Pentium D, where it needed a 0.5V increase to get from 3.6 to 3.7Ghz.

I've heard that the motherboard you have isn't as good at overclocking (because of the integrated video). You may want to consider sending it back for the version without the video.
 
I agree on that. Also, a voltage increase may be needed. It may not be your way, but you could try setting it a little high, around 1.375 and then clocking. After you get your stable clock, you could turn the volts down or up whatever you need.
 
Yea, I had to raise mine to get to 3.2 than I lowered it back to stock voltage and it operates fine, and cooler.

I am playing music, folding, have other multiple programs running and my cpu temp is 32C.
 
well... i set up my hard drives in RAID 0 yesterday and switching the sata ports must have helped somehow since its booting fine now.
im stress testing at 2.77ghz default volts right now. i believe my fsb is like 396 or something like that. hopefully it doesnt fail on me :D
this thing is lightning fast in RAID 0 lol...

well... it failed the stress test while i was at school.
now i have another problem though, i increase the fsb and no matter what i do it reverts back to 267fsb... dont know why!
any ideas why? maybe ill just try later
 
okay im running it at 1.125V 2.78ghz and its stable. my problem now is that it won't boot at all if i raise the fsb even at default voltage which is 1.325V...
 
well... it could be your motherboard now going any further?
I mean.. when youre overclocking, youre not only overclocking the CPU, but also the motherboard... each has its own limit's.. ;)
 
fade, you need to update your signature... I mean the "Waiting... Still..." part... :)

Also, the DS3 uses the P965 chipset, not 965G.

What are your BIOS settings? I have (practically) the exact same system to yours, and I was booting into Windows @ 3.56 Ghz (stock cooling).

im at 2.73ghz and it prime95's fine as well as memtest... but if i try to play oblivion it freezes right up on me!
im gonna try reinstalling that and ill try some other stuff...
so im running memtest86 right now... dual, ill let it run to around 300-500% and then ill prime95 it. if that passes then i'll keep the overclock, reinstall oblivion... and if it still freezes i'll have to figure it out from there..
are the bios settings ok?

Use as little amount of USB devices as you can when overclocking.
Also disable the onboard video.
I think its a motherboard limit, if you get the chance, try switching the motherboard to another 965G or better, a 965P
