Oh Oh - Overvoltage!

Hey guys. For no reason that I know of, I found out that my mobo set the power to the processor (A64 3000+ Venice) which is supposed to be on 1.4 volts to a huge 1.65 volts. Now my question is. Could the CPU be damaged? I mean it works fine with all games, no apparent problems at all.....but I know that such power (although it ran for 1 day only) could potentially damage the CPU. The funny thing is that at first it ran at 1.4 ... then set itelf to 1.65...now after updating the BIOS, it's all good. What's your opinion?

Werid! em, i wouldnt think that the cpu was damaged because the BIOS would have probably also increased the cpu fan speed to cope with the extra heat. also, if all is workin ok now, looks like u got away with it!

I would be very surprised if yoru CPU got any damage. Most Mobos have over voltage and over current protection, that's why I don't think nothing serious happened to your CPU.

1. Lots of performance mobos increase Vcore a bit past what you say anyways (not that much though)
2. 1.65v isnt what id call "a lot" of voltage
3. You'll be fine .... extended use of stupidly-high vcores will kill chips but thats not too bad at all
