things were running just fine and dandy but i started getting this error on boot.
system running in failsafe check BIOS
i got an error code from the POST and looked it up
switch back to test mode if full screen logo is supported
-if error occur report errors and wait for keys
-if no errore or F1 key is pressed to continue; clear EPA or customization logo
at first i could press F1, load GRUB an boot to XP or kubuntu. today i tried to change my bios settings to fix this error. i disabled the boot logo but that didnt fix the error. in fact now i cant boot into XP. in GRUB i'll select XP and it will display attempting to boot XP but it hangs! i waited about 10 secs for it and nothing happened. but i could boot into kubuntu no prob. but when booting kubuntu it took longer than it normally does.

i have no idea what is going on here. i dont know a whole lot in bios. i ran through my mobo manual for bios setup when i tried fixing it.

the mobo is an Abit fatal1ty AN8, AMD 3000+, XP pro sp2. i have a router and a softwear fire wall along with AVG that is updated on boot.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH:mad:

plz help!!

have you tried clearing the CMOS, there should eb a jumper on your mobo that you short out then disconnect again... check you manual

i havent done that but i did resrote to default in bios. is that the same thing as clearing it with the jumper?

It does to an extent. It resets everything to default, but if there was a problem it may only be fixed by resetting the CMOS via the jumper.

PS- Im glad that worked for you.

Thats scary.

Years ago--I downloaded updated software for my video card. It turned out to be FIRMWARE and it reset the BIOS in my video card.

Well, that was all fine and good, but the new BIOS in the video card was incompatable with the BIOS on the mobo. So, I had to find the right updated BIOS for my /mobo and flash it.

I was nervous as a cat, because if you flash the wrong firmware to your mobo--it's a paperweight after that.
