Ok heres a strange one .....

So I have a question for you all.

Recently in the past few days, a new program seems to be running on my computer.

I have no idea what it is.

Basicly on the windows bar on the bottom, every so often a new window box will quickly appear and disappear. It will be there just long enuf for me to notice it then it disappears. It has no icon, only the standard windows box icon.

I normally wouldnt care, but when I play one of my games, if there is any activity in windows it will bring you out of the game and into windows (for example if you get a new AOL msg etc etc) it will come out to windows. So when this new box appears quiockly it brings me out, which is annoying as helllll.

So Obviously its impossible for any of you to just be able to tell what program it is, but can anyone point me in the direction of how I can find out what it is ? Is there a program that can log events and times so I can just trace it back to a log and see what loaded at that time. Or what the hell is going on.

well if you never installed it, then its probly something that installed itself (spyware). check ad/remove programs and see if anything suspicous is there, and then check program files, alot of spyware that installs itself dosent allways show up in add remove, if that dosent solve anything, skan for spyware, and virus's. If you installed any new software lately on your computer, then it may be something to do with that. :)
 
Yea i've already run the spyware stuff (adaware + spybot) and its not spybot. At first I thought it might be AIM's little advert boxes.. but then, there is no advert that comes up, so I have no clue.....
 
Try typing msconfig in the run box to open up msconfig. In there click on the startup tap on the top and uncheck anything suspicious. Make sure there is nothing in the startup folder of the start menu and make sure your anti-spyware and virus programs are updated.
 
thanks, i checked that out and everything seems a-ok

i think my question is more aimed at this : is there a way to log every process that is running or doing something different on my computer, so that when I get that weird program that runs and disappears, i can just jump into the log and see what that was ?

No idea, try googling something like that and even if it apears and then dissapears it may still be in the processes tab of the task manager.

Maybe a cookie has been placed on your PC and a certain website is trying to send you a pop-up but its beeing blocked by whatever AntiVirus programm/ Pop up blocker you might have.....just a thought, so clear all Temp Internet files and cookies
 
i had this problem, when i wa splaying halo, ctf being the worst scenario, it would just randomly go back into windows. i dont know how i fixed it, i think it may of just stopped or i uninstalled something, but ive formatted since then. good luck with it as i know how annoying it is.

lol yea, so you know my pain. It always happens at a critical moment :)

Anyways, to answer some suggestions,

its way to quick to get a screenshot, besides nothing comes on the screen, just a quick new program bar comes on the bottom taskbar, but then disappears just as fast.

I dont think its a cookie because it comes when im not on the web (ie. no internet explorer is open, just my game or some other program)

thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming if anyone has thoughts on this. again what id really like to do is find a way to log the processes so i can go into it after it happens and see what it was

yea, i had the flag right near my base and it went into windows so i couldnt score. this was in a proper match too
