Ok, here's an odd keyboard problem.

Not really a problem, per se, just something I'd really like to know the 'why' of.

I have a Dynex keyboard. It works fine. 99.9% of the time it has absolutely no problems and until a day ago it worked 100% of the time.

Yesterday I bought a lighter. I think it's a butane lighter. It's a 'wind resistant campfire' lighter for a trip I'm taking.

I was playing with it earlier today and noticed after a bit that every time I turned the lighter on, my keyboard would shut off.

Sometimes it'll come back on on its own, sometimes it will just stay dead until I unplug it from the back of the computer and plug it back in.

Does anyone have any idea as to why? The solution is obvious, don't use the lighter around the computer. But I just want to know the why of it.

I made a video of it as well if anyone's interested. Would have to load it up to YouTube.

You sure its not just a coincidence? I cant think of anything that would cause that to happen. Except maybe gases from the lighter but i highly doubt it as there wouldnt be much released.

Is it a piezo lighter, one that sparks to ignite. If so it could be electrical interference.

I'm pretty sure it's directly related to the lighter. It happens pretty much every time I turn it on, soon as it makes that 'click' sound (doesn't even need the fire to come out).

I don't know what kind of starter it has but you're likely right about the electrical interference since it happens soon as the 'click' happens.

The lighter is made by Ozark Trail and purchased at Wal-Mart.
