What CD or DVD do I use and HOW do I use it to put one damn, 900 MB avi (or, well some kind of video thing) file on it?

Well, first of all, welcome to CF.
900MB won't fit on a CD, so you're looking at a DVD.
If you're using XP, you'll need a program like Nero, or Roxio, or a freebie program to burn it to a DVD that is supported by your burner. Any DVD burner will burn DVD-R type discs.
