Ok, I need some help on DirectX

I don't know if this is the place to post this but I'm trying to install a game but when I do it says I need DirectX 8.1 or higher. I have DirectX 9c. WTF? It also mentions I may need to turn my resolution down? I did. Could someone help me on this?

When you're installing it, it says you need DX8.1 or higher, right? Just go along with it...

Key word there being may need to turn it down, probably don't
