ok...need some help

ive got two computers. one is a dell optiplex gx1, and i looked at the ram (single 128mb sdram), and this is what is typed on it:

MT16LSDT1664AG - 10EC7 PC100 - 222 - 620
9946AAMEX.021​

and the other computer is a newer optiplex, i think gx150, and it has two 128mb cards in it, which read:

MT8LSDT1664AG - 133E1 PC133U - 333 - 542 - A
BZAB5HQ035 200117​
128MB, SYNCH, 133MHz, CL3

now, my question is, just by looking at this information, can i tell if theyre compatible? because, (1) theyre both relatively similar systems, (2) the ram is almost identical, although i know look isnt really anything to go by, and (3) they have some similarities with the MT, LSD, etc. however, the reason why im skeptical is because im assuming the first one runs at 100MHz while the second one runs at 133MHz...whether that makes a difference or not, im not sure. if anybody could let me know or point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated, and i would be saving some money on more ram. thanks
 
the faster one will downclock to lower speed as you probably knew. however, the pc100 stuff will either force the system to run a divider to keep its speed and downclock your pc133 stuff, or it will continue to run at 133MHz and overclock your pc100 ram causing major stability problems. the dell board should allow you to select the memory speed that you require in order to run either ram in either system
 
thanks, and how would i do that? ill take the stability over speed...i just wanted a slight upgrade anyway. its not worth the risk
 
get pc133, i heard from several people in the forum that it is actually quicker than pc100 and there is no difference in stability
 
ok. my main concern was just whether or not to use two of the 128s at 133mhz in conjunction with the existing 128 at 100mhz, or to maybe just not use the 100 at all.
 
HAHA! it worked, except it took a lot more force that i felt comfortable using. i thought ram just kind of clicks in. anyway, i booted it up, and it took much longer initially, but i think it was doing a memory test or something, and it said something about the amount of system memory has changed. so i look in setup and i see that it recognizes it as 384 mb of RAM. SO MUCH EASIER than i thought it was. anyway, do you really think that by taking out the third 128 will make a difference? i doubt that with such small numbers ill see a big change ANYWAY, but do you think the fact that its only running at 100 mhz will affect everything?
 
if your system was doing a lot of page file swapping before you put the extra memory in i feel that the extra memory will help performance even though it is working at a slower rate. you could always take the slow stick out and see for yourself.
also, i've always found all ram needs a fair amount of force before it goes in, it can be surprising how much force it needs
 
yup. just before i thought something was going to crack it clicked. i found it easier to clip in one side, then pin down the other one seperately. kinda tricky.
