Hi all. Its me again with another problem. About two days ago I noticed that whenever I would go to rightclick and icon on the desktop or try to highlight it and then use the keyboard shortcuts on it, it would flash the desktop, restart explorer.exe and my explorer window would be gone. I'm tring to figure out whats wrong but I never seen anything like this before... Thanks all.

The simple answer is that is a display related problem with the software portion for the video card there. If you recently went for any update you likely saw a partial installation of that now being realized. The first thing to do for this would be removing and then performing a fresh install of both drivers and software to see if this clears right up.

Ok, I tried to reinstall the latest nvidia drviers but that didn;t help. Also, I noticed that the desktop only flickers when a non folder icon is right clicked. Like my computer works fine as well as my music. but Firefox makes the desktop fliker. Thanks guys.

try uninstalling the new drivers and install older one's

Sometimes the latest drivers are intended for a newer lineup of cards. You'll have problems when an update is for the next series where you have to with an older one still available. Being that your card is an 8800 series card that wouldn't be the problem but simply that particular update isn't working for you.

When first putting this build together the new MSI ATI driven card saw problems with the drivers on the software disk it came with as well as the Catalyst 7.9 seen at the support site then. The Catalyst on the disk turned out to be the 7.9 as well. The patch released also failed to correct problems.

The 7.10 worked while the 7.11 proved the best for the card here then. Likewise either the particular update you have on or something else on the system is not right.
Besides the version of the update you may need something else like the AMD patch or an update for the board.

I ran into a similar problem since the board's cd as well as the Asus support site only saw XP drivers for the model board here. Once I went through the MS update site with custom not express I ran across the Vista version of the drivers needed as an optional hardware update. You could be seeing something like this if more then one update continues to show problems there.

Well, today its when I restarted, its works. I didn't do anything and it works Yeayh. I'm not complaining... Ugg, Vista is wired.

What you may have been seeing is something finally completing it's installation and now is working as it should. Have you installed anything else lately?

As a rule one thing I prefer with Vista over XP is the larger reduction in driver errors and improved crash control over XP. I rarely and that's rarely see a BSOD while XP would often catch one of those or freeze while gaming or running a demanding app. MS finally provided the much needed and certainly long awaited fixes in SP3!
