Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz 985.00
Intel Desktop Board D975XBX2 246.99
Radeon X1900XTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 399.99 (EDIT: I'm better off with quadro I think since I don't play games and I want to have two monitors connected at all time. Quadro is better, right? )
Thermaltake W0106RU 700W Power Supply 169.99
Seagate Barracuda 320gb (for OS) 94.99
Any cheap aluminum case that can take 6 HDDs
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium FULL VERSION 226.99

I already have 4gig ram, and dvd writer.

total: USD 2224
I'm building this to make something similar to the MacPro which would cost 3,847.00 at the same specs.

You dont need a Quadro unless you are a serious user who deals heavily with 3D programs, animation programs, or movie making. Even if you do that a bit, a normal video card would be perfectly fine, but if you want to make your own Lord of the Rings, thats a different story :P

You can use two monitors with pretty much any video card. I would go with the 8800GTS though, its the same price and is DX10 capable.

yeah, but if I wait a year or so, people then will tell me there are newer graphics cards and newer technology processors i'm better off with >_<

Well you would be better of going with the CD2 E6700 and either a 8800GTS or GTX. If you want the latest graphics card that is out.

You dont even have to downgrade, the 8800GTS costs $399, the same price as the x1900XT he picked out.

I hope you mean XTX :P

XTX's can be bought for under $300 buy it now off of ebay, which make them a better deal than they would be at $400. Still, though DX10 is important.

haha, woops, ya I meant the XTX.

But the 8800GTS has 640MB of VRAM, vs the 512MB hes looking at currently, so even if he does more workstation orented stuff, the 8800GTS would be the best choice. In fact, I cant think of any reason to get the x1900XTX instead...
