I have a friend that is much younger than I, and he was given an old 366Mghz computer. After telling him to reformat the hard drive, he said that he does not have the operating system or drivers CDs. I know that he can buy XP home, etc. But, what does he do for drivers? What do you guys think is the cheapest way out?

www.google.com

lol thats what my friend does whenever I ask him a question.
Linux is a free unix-type operating system. There are many different types of "kernels" which are different forms of Linux that people have made. Ubuntu, Gentoo, and Debian are some examples of different kernels, or versions of linux.

I have experience with ubuntu, and I believe it's the most user-friendly version of linux.

I probably butchered the meaning of linux. sorry.

XP would do that Pc (as I have seen XP on an 166MHz machine :D Boot's faster than my E4300 )

2K or 98SE should suit it. Care to spend an few bucks?

Linux is another great choice :D

Getting XP would be a complete waste of money, as the OS itself would cost several times the value of the computer. As others said, throw linux on it, the computer might even run better as it doesn't hog up as much resources as microsoft OS do.
