Old Championship Manager 00/01

Heya all. :)
Now with the football (it's football, not soccer, soccer's just a misspelled sucker, glad to get that off my chest :p) hype, I got the urge to pick out my old Championship Manager (season 00/01, as in the thread title). I want to get one thing clear: I cannot and will not get a newer CM. I can't afford it, and I don't like the gameplay in them. :p

I installed the game, and then tried to start it. I started a new game, picked a local Swedish team, set the formation and tactics and all that fun, and clicked continue game. Got an ingame error message (no BSOD, Windows error message or anything) about me not having enough memory to do that. I wasn't happy, but wanted to try and fix it. Downloaded the latest patch, installed it, and same thing.. The patch said something about fixing that, actually. :/
I HAVE enough memory to run the game. But the game apparently doesn't like Windows XP.

So, I'm on a fairly new machine, got 768 (or something like that) mb RAM, Athlon XP 2600+ processor and a few hundred gb hard drive. Also has this really old game which I really really REALLY want to play, and can't get it to work even after patching. :/

Anyone got the slightest idea of what to do? Any programs that could help, or settings?
 
Try to run the program in Compatability Mode, and choose the OS that the program was originally designed for. The other thing is that it could be SP2 interfering with the program, and then you'd have to see if you can get it off. What version of Windows came with the computer? (no Service Packs, SP1 or SP2)
 
I've tried both Win95 and 98 compability mode, none works. Never actually ran it without problems on this computer, used to be my old laptop (broken now). SP2 is indeed installed, but not sure how I'm supposed to fix that. :/
No service packs came with the machine.

I have managed to get it to run, but no idea how. And even if it runs, it sometimes gives me the same error message.
 
Yeah, my guess is that it's a SP2 problem. I've had that issue with some old programs trying to run on a newer machine. Sorry dude, I'd try to see if you can get a hold of an older computer or copy of Windows...
 
Sorry for bumping this.

If I remember correctly what you have to do is delete the CM environment varible.

To do this right click on 'My Computer' > 'Properties' > 'Advanced Tab' > 'Environment Variables' > Find the variable relating to CM and delete it.

Hope it works for you. It's a great game.

its called "American football", cause for the most part your the only ones who really play it (not to insult any other countries with a small following).
