Old computer, new Vid card

I see.. is there anyways to reduce the noise?.. Perhaps some aftermarket heat-sink and fan I can purchase to cool it with less noise... or should I return this card and perhaps shell out more $ for more equal in vid quality but less in noise..?

This computer is actually sitting in the living room next to the TV, and the noise from the fan is quiet noticeable when it's just idle or watching a movie.

sorry, I don't want to sound like a ungrateful jerk, I really do appreciate all the advise, just the noise is driving me tad insane...

You could get a 7750 passive for $150. Or, somebody will recommend a passive cooler, I'm sure. Also, you could disable smart fan, and have the fan put to 25 percent, and see how the sound and temps go with that. Go to 85c max recommended. Most cards will be fine at 100c, but let's be safe.

how's the performance of the 7750 passive? is it pretty much an equivalent?
if this is the right item?

not sure if it will even fit in my tower case, is as it looks like radiator/heat-sink loops the top and goes behind the card little bit. My card slot is on the bottom.

Could a member suggest a very quiet heat-sink + fan, or passive one cooling that doesn't loop around the back?

yea I try to test my computer last night with software first. (I believe I was using speedfan?) I noticed at 40% fan power, the sound wasn't too loud, and I watched some movies and the video card temp was around 58c or so. According to previous advice, the card should work fine even at 80c. So I guess I need to reprogram the fan to keep it at 40% fan power till it hit 61 or so, and bump up the fan speed like normally.. This should resolve my problem. But would I have to use speedfan every time I boot to make this work? or is there some other program that I should look into to get it setup more permanently?

Download and install MSI Afterburner.

1. Open Afterburner

2. Click on Settings
3. In the General Tab, ensure the following checkbox is selected:

*Start with Windows
*Start minimised

4. Then open the Fan tab.
5. Select "Enable user defined software automatic fan control"

*You should be able to then modify the fan's temperature response curve.

6. Select OK.

7. Select Apply if highlighted
8. Minimise Afterburner.
