Old computer not displaying

Hi.

My GF dads computer just randomly stopped displaying on the monitor.

Its still posting etc and can here the windows sounds on shutdown etc.

Its not the monitor as we tried a few. My guess is either the video card is overheating or the PSU is not giving enough power anymore.

He has a old Geforce 4 TI4200 card.

Any idea as to the problem?

Cheers

Well, you're right. It sounds like either the PSU or the video card. Can you try a different PSU and see if it still gives you the same trouble? Or try a different video card?
Could you also list the system specs as well?

The problem is I dont know. And they dont know either (not very computer literate lol) and I cant check to see. All I know from looking at the box is that its on a gigabyte mobo with a stock 300w PSU.

Ill try my old 450w PSU and see if that works.

One other thing the gpu fan doesnt spin which might be the problem.

Does the mobo have onboard graphics? If so, pop the card out and let it run on the mobo graphics chip.

If it isn't the monitor, and it isn't the card. Did you try a new/different power supply?
I just realized that it still has all the windows sounds and everything. But, technically it could still post without graphics.
