Ok So I recently bought a new HP and it already has a CD/DVD Burner combo....My old Compaq was just sitting there so I decided to take the old parts from it and put it in the new HP...My new HP has an empty slot for another CD/DVD Drive So I put the CDRW/DVD Rom drive from my old compaq into my new HP....so now my HP has two drives so if i need to copy something it will be quicker...except the last time i did it it did something wierd and I had to find drivers for my New drive as well as the old drive that I just put in...so i unplugged it and my new drive works fine now and has been....but since the old CDRW/DVD rom is just sitting inside my computer unplugged...is there a way I can make it work without having to find drivers and stuff for the new drive as well? is this a common problem where if u put in another drive ur first one needs drivers too?

I'm guessing you are plugging the wrong wires into the wrong slots or your settings for the slave, primary, master, etc.. are not right.. What do you currently have now?

However, if it was working before and just recently happened.. it could have been caused by what you actually did. Any blue screens or anything odd?

No when i first plugged it in my drives wouldnt work and they both needed drivers..but when i unplugged the old one then the original oen works fine...but i didnt pay any attention to slave, primary, or master...how do you set them as such? and which ones should be which?

Drives on the same IDE cable need to be set as master and slave or cable select, by the jumpers on the back of the drive. I would set the dvd burner as master and the cd burner as slave.
