Old Java versions?

I have Java 8 Update 31 and Java 8 Update 40 in my Programs & Features installed for Windows 7 Pro 64.

I was wondering if I could uninstall Java 8 Update 31 because it is the older version

When installing new versions of Java from Java.com, they always tell you that you should remove older versions of Java, but I don't know if that is like going from Java 7 to Java 8 (which doesn't apply to me now) or if that also applies to revisions.

Java keeps changing. Back when version 6 and earlier was around, it would not remove the older versions and would never tell you to. When 7 came around, it installed over the top of the old version. Now that 8 is here it seems it installs new and then reminds you to uninstall and then asks if you want it to automatically uninstall older version.

But yes, you need to uninstall any older version installed.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, I forgot to say that - that I must have missed something, cuz I thought I remember at one point getting old Java uninstalled and new Java installed all in one fell swoop :)
