How old? Does it boot? What make/model? If it is power PC the newest OS you can run is 10.5, if the hardware supports it. Basically, if the powerbook has built in FireWire it can run Leopard, 10.5. If not you may have to find an older version of OS X to load on it.

Do you have the original software it shipped with?
