Old Mainboard (upgrading)

i have a small question, bacause i'm not quite sure about something. i have an old P4 mainboard and according to the manual, it only supports RAM modules upto PC266.

if i had to use a RAM module higher that 266, would i cause damage to the motherboard or to the RAM module it self?

or would it still work but obviously not to the RAM's full potential?!

thanks for the help!!

at the moment i have 512MB (x2 256MB) i'm just trying to find two 1G modules or at least 2 512MB modules.

As long as it's 184pin RAM you can safely stick higher speed memory in you board. It will simply "downclock" to to 266mhz.
