I am in the process of upgrading to a new desktop. I am planning on buying a HP Pavilion a6530f. It has 4 gb of memory and says it can be expanded to 8 gb. My desktop I am replacing it with has 2 gb of memory in it. I was hoping to be able to put those 2 gb in my new pc. For a total of 6 gb of memory. Can somebody please tell me if my old memory will fit into the new pc? What information do you need? One more thing this new pc has a triple core processor. Are these processors any good. Thanks

Ok, well first of all we need to know what kind of RAM the new computer has, and what kind of RAM the old computer has.

If its a X3 it can only be DDR2 memory somewhere between DDR2 533-1066. What kind and speed does you old computer have? Plus you might need to check if the new one has four 1gbs sticks or two 2gb sticks. If it has four 1gb sticks your memory slots will be full.

The new pc is an x3. My old pc has 2 gb of ram(2 1gb sticks) The new pc has 4 gb of ram and can upgradeable to 8 gb of memory. Somebody said that I need to count the pins on my memory and try and find out how many pins are on the new pc.

I no longer have my old pc hooked up. I have the ram sitting in front of me. It has stickers on it with numbers. Will any of these numbers tell you what ram it is?

basically ram is classified as sdram or ddr.. now since you have ddr you want to know if it is okay to put the ram on your new mobo.. Yes it is okay if the fsb needed in your pc is lesser than the fsb of your ram then that is what you called overclocking. now you ill ask if is it okay for you to overclock? yes but you will put your computer on risk. CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG.. that's what i can advice you..
