Old mobo question

Hey guys, new to the forum. I have an Iwill XP333R mobo. The manual says that it will support DDR333 memory however I just put a 1gig stick in that is DDR333 but it is only reading it at 266. Is there someway to go into the bios and change something to get this to read it to 333?

BIOS should automatically detect the frequency and adjust accordingly, though it is possible that at some point in the past, the setting was manually changed to only allow 266. Enter BIOS and load the Optimal Settings, save, then reboot and see what it reads.

Also, do you just have the 1 Gig of 333mh? If you have other sticks in there slower than 333, your system will automatically down-clock to make everything run at the slower speed.

Thats what I thought, it should auto detect, but it won't. It is the only stick in there. I have loaded the Optimal settings and didn't change anything, except for it lowered my processor speed, so I went back in and OC it.

Thanks for the reply, any other ideas?

Actually, take a look at this: http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/iwillxp333/xp_6.htm Details below; interesting read...

"BUT! While I was more than happy with the overclocking potential of this motherboard I had almost forgotten the main selling point; DDR333. Surely I would have noticed the option to set my ram frequency higher in the BIOS though? You can guess why I didn't. It's simply not there! In the reviewers Q & A the answer is a rather bizarre one; 'Set your FSB to 166.' Yes, that's it. No option for 'official' 333 support as Iwill have claimed. It's purely a case of overclocking your RAM. I must conclude therefore that this board has no greater support for the soon to be released PC2700 modules than any other board. If you have a motherboard that can stabily achieve 166FSB then it seems, in Iwill's eyes at least, you have support for DDR333. Not quite what I or a number of other people had in mind I would suggest. Indeed the board does go to 166 with relative ease yet this is still a somewhat misleading product nevertheless. The BIOS that came with our sample was indeed the first release retail version and while complete I can only hope Iwill do what is right by their customers and release a version that includes the option to set this clock independently of of the FSB, whether it's possible for Iwill to do this remains to be seen however."

Interesting, thanks for the link. I went back into the bios and changed one more setting. It was called "Asynchronous Mode" It was set to "By Iwill Function" but it had the option to change it to 133/166. So I changed it to that and viola it is now reading the stick at 332 for some reason instead of 333 but I guess thats pretty close. BTW the manual does not even show this "Asynchronous Mode" in it?

Thanks for the help.

Well, glad you got it up and running. Personally, I think it was mis-marketing that they labeled the MoBo as it was in the first place as far as '333' goes.

Welcome to CF!

Thanks for the welcome. It sure does seem like a marketing scam somewhat. Anyway, seems to be working well now. Thanks for your help.:)
