OLD motherboard, what's compatible?

Hey I have a ASUS P5KPL motherboard from an old computer I own. Is it possible to add a new parts to it to create it into a average gaming PC? For games such as League of Legends and CSGO. If so what CPU, graphics card would be compatible with it?

*Also if you recommend upgrading the motherboard what is a recommended budget motherboard?

It's many generations old at this point with ddr2 memory. Best cpu would be a core 2 quad 9650. Best bet would be to save money for all new parts. What kind of budget are you currently working with?

You can get the Haswell stuff pretty cheap right now. Something like an an MSI H81M-P33 (under $50) and an i5 4460 (under $200) would be good. You'd also need at least 8GB of RAM ($35-40) but more ideally 16GB ($60-70)

Everything else can be carried over from your current computer, though you would be wise to also upgrade your videocard. For the kinds of games you're talking about a GTX 950 would be fine. AMD has a card coming out called the RX480 which will be very powerful and dirt cheap. Might want to wait for it.

If you want a lower spec machine than that, look at a cheap FM2+ motherboard, an AMD athlon 860K ($45 and under $100) and 8GB of DDR3. You will still need a video card.

I just want cheapest possible parts I can get. I don't care for graphics or huge games, I already have a Ps4 and a laptop for studies

Thanks man, I'll look into it. I presume those are US$? I'm in Australia so it will be different

In that case, if you want to just play basic games and you aleady have a PS4, I would suggest that you just get an Athlon 860K, 2x4GB of RAM, a GTX 950, and a cheap FM2+ motherboard. Keep your power supply and hard drive and case and whatever cooling fans you have. and call it a day.
If you want an even cheaper video solution pick up a used GTX 750Ti. They are about $80 US used. Dont know AUS prices.
Actually, buying everything used is not a bad idea. Craigslist, Kijiji, and whatever equivalents you have in your country can usually get you 30-70% off parts. Yes, they're used, but if they work who cares?

If I was buying a 750Ti, an 860K, and a cheap FM2+ board and 8GB of RAM used in USD I'd probably pay about $190

THIS is what I have found so far:

Asus GeForce GTX 750Ti - $167
AMD A8-7600 - $119
Kingston Value RAM 4GB - $25 x2
Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3P - $89

Athlon 860k seems non existent on Aus websites and on Ebay it's not as cheap as the AMD A8.
all of the parts I have found are new. I can't find anything used on the Australian Ebay which is strange. However I did find a Gigabyte F2A78M-HD2 motherboard for $37

I just did more research. If I were to buy a AMD A8 processor does that mean I would not need a graphics card?

LoL and CSGO should be pretty playable on the APU. There are a couple youtube videos capturing off of the integrated video that only show occasional framerate drops. The main thing about APUs is that you want to spend the extra $5 or $10 and get faster RAM (2133 or 2400). You could always try using the iGPU and upgrade to a discrete card later if you need more performance. Also, if you can swing the 7800 or 7850K instead they have 33% more GPU cores (512 vs 384 of the 7600)

If you played anything more modern I'd pick up a dedicated GPU though.

Personally I'd wait to see how AM4 and the AMD APUs pan out in the next month or two, then you can just drop in a Zen CPU when you wanted to upgrade instead of buying into a dead platform (FM2+).
