I was putting a CD-RW drive in my ol HP pavilion 6470z, and also an mx440 graphics card. I must have unpluged something because when I turn it on it beeps like: 1 long beep, then imediatly after 2 short beeps. What does this mean? Could the CD drive not be compatible with windows 95? Maybe I need more RAM? (96 megs). Or my PSU isnt powerfull enough for the drive and the card? 110 W with 3.5 A on the +12V line :o. I need to fix this because its my backup computer.

Hmmm

My guess would be more likely the GF MX440. Make sure it is plugged in properly and that your motherboard is capable of taking that card. The PSU should not be the problem in this case. Check your jumper settings for the CD-RW drive.

JAN :D

Wehn I use the onboard video it doesnt work either though... And I have an AGP 2X slot and I'm sure its fully in. I think thst my PSU is being overloaded by the graphic card or something.

I think I'll just take it out... Its causing more trouble than good. I'll tell you guys how it goes tomorrow.

from what i remember the nvidia geforce 4 series of video cards require at least 350 watts psu.
although the other suggestions are valid i would also guess that the psu is factoring in this problem too. see if you can plug a more pwerful psu in to see if it helps.

Try unplugging the power and data cable on the CD-RW and see if the beeping stops. Also check to make sure the RAM and any cable on the motherboard is in all the way.
