I have a 6 year old pc with a 1.3Ghz processor, it has 512 memory and i only need it for basic stuff so was woundering what type of processor its livky to be as id like to buy and old one thats slightly better.

it really is not that expensive, there are a lot of cheap stores out there where you can buy a lot of cheap fast hardware. if you only know how to shop and where to buy.

Is it an AMD or an intell?
if its an intell maybe you can overclock it a bit.. if its an AMD, its a Thunderbird (wich is quite hot, and wont OC much because of heat) or a Palomino (wich just sucked at overclocking :P )

(i dont know about the Intel counterparts of that 'éra'tough :o )

neither is a new cheap board :) but like Chrisalviala said.. a new pc doesnt cost much.. better save some money and get a relatively descent one, than getting such an old processor again.
because usually you pay more for those processors because they are that old, and are getting rare ;)

I would guess that that 1.3Ghz processor is either a very early Pentium 4, or perhaps a Pentium 3. Did P3 go up that high? I know they cracked the Gigahertz barrier

As said, it could be an AMD, too. That should be perfectly fine for internet and word processing stuff. Honestly a 1Ghz processor and 512 ram is fine for that sort of thing. Otherwise it simply is NOT worth putting money into that system. Find a family that would like a simple compute rfor their kids to terrorize, sell it to them for 50 bucks, and think about either saving up and buying a computer to put together, or buying one from the big names and financing it.
