OLD socket 478

my parents computer is intel pentium 4 1.8ghz.

Im wanting to get a diff chip thats 478. With the link provided for the motherboard they have. Will it accept say a 2.6 celeron or even 2ghz+ p4.

The chip in there now has a stock 1.5v vcore and idles at 42c.

Looks like you are limited to 533mhz FSB, but thats better than my old P4 system I was stuck with 400 and I probably have the same P4 1.8ghz chip you have now.
Do not get any celeron chip! Just because it's faster MHZ doesn't mean it will be faster. Most socket 478 P4 chips have 512k of cache, the celerons have 128K.
This chip right here would be a half decent upgrade for you, and it's dirt cheap-
