Old software new monitors?

I have an old windows software program I picked up several years ago for my niece when she was about 6 years old that allows a photo to be taken of her face and she could put dozens of different wigs on the photo. It was just for fun and she really got a kick out of it. Now shes about 16.
I now have two more nieces that are 5 years old and I wanted to show them the same program to make them laugh like before.

The program loads but is looking for a monitor setting lower than 800x600. The next lower range is requested but a prompt, but I can't change it down from 800x600.
I have some old PC in the barn and some old CRTs that I will try to get the older setting.

Any ideas on changing setting backwards?

You can set a compatibility mode in either the shortcut or exe properties for 640x480

I forgot to say that I installed the old program in an 800mz old PC thinking it might run like it used to. I have several PCs in my stock.

I found in the voodoo card a long list of modes and I tried a few but so far none works fro the program.

Tonight I trashed the to CD's for my nieces after I reloaded an old 733 speed PC with windows 98 and with a new out of the box 15" CRT from stock.
I still got the same graphics error as before with the lowest setting on the monitor. The program loaded but would not play on the screen. I'll get my wife to try to find another hair styles CD for them to play with when they visit.
My older niece would play the CD for hours and talked about the hair styles for years.

I ran out of things to try to bring the old software back to life.
