Older Computer.. How do I know what type of memory??

I have a Gateway desktop computer from back in 2003.

It has 768 megs of ram right now which just isn't cutting it for the newer applications. I'm having some difficulty figuring out what type of DIMM(s) to put in there.

I'd like to bump it up to a couple gigs of ram. Does anybody have an idea of what I should purchase? Here's the specs I have...

Gateway Desktop...
Windows XP (max 3.5 gigs of ram)
Celeron 2.2 GHRZ Processor
Currently has 768 megs of ram

Also does the memory still have to be installed in banks or can single DIMMS be installed? I haven't done much work with this sort of thing since they were SIMMS.

THanks!!!

hmm, 2003, it SHOULD be DDR, but im not posotive. is there any model numbers on the actual stick of ram?

CPU-Z would tell you, research the model a bit online, or just open it up and look (sticks are usually labled). It's probably going to be DDR, RD-RAM, or maybe SD-RAM.
