Older version of windows and vista

When I first built my computer I got a system builder's pack for windows vista 32-bit, its sucked, so I got rid of it and switched to XP PRO, I had some weird svchost problem with it draining my processor so I ended up reinstalling Vista again. It crashed, so I reinstalled vista AGAIN. It says it put all the stuff I had before in "an older version of vista" Now the first time I had vista ie right when I built it I had great framerates for games and such, now I can barley play counterstrike or FEAR over 75 fps... does the framerate issue connect to all the times I had to install a new operating system? I'm using 2gb or RAM and an 8600 GTS Geforce video card which is supposed to run these things smooth and easy. also a dual core 2.4 ghz
 
When you reinstalled Vista something was lost with the video drivers. Was the primary partition reformatted prior to using the recovery disk that came with the system? The driver support for the newer DX10 compatible cards is still a little early and can see problems at times.

The installer is apparently seeing the original installation logs and other dated information if you left the primary intact to simply install Vista over XP. That takes the XP installation and folds it up into the Windows.old folder. When you say new OS is that another edition of Vista now on like Ultimate or the 64bit edition?
 
So you simply bought a second oem package for the build then. Some drivers may not have seen as an install as when you first put the build together or some setting changes may be needed. Disabling some unused services is time consuming and you have to test how Windows runs once some are set from automatic to manual or totally disabled. That was seen in a different recent article with a similar title.
 
Sometimes that can work in reverse for an older model card while the newest DX10 cards out have to wait for the update that will correct problems being the current driver sets available. The surprise seen here with the 7.9 problems is due to the fact that ATI had drivers available for the beta versions of Vista long before NVidia yet they goofed on the ones for their new line of cards?
