ok, il be making ALOT of posts in the next 56hours!

first: wtf... quote from mobo installation book "To prevent shorting the pcb
circuit, please REMOVE the metal studs or spacers if they are allready installed on the chassis base and are without mounting-holes on this motherboard to aline with"

what does that mean?
i have metal spacers "they are like little sticks", does this mean, thake the ones of that arent being used because there is no little metal circle on top of da mobo???????

next problem...
this big rectangular copper box that looks like a cooling device is blocking my ports, the mouse, net and whatnot.
but if i flip it around"the mobo" it wont fit
then if i flip the side of the case around that fits the mobo, the mounting screws that help support the psu are on the wrong side...

am i doning it wrong?

ok n/m i got it.
there was a different metal connection center that came with the mobob.
"the metal job that seperates the plugs from the connection at the back of the case.
they like to hide things....;)

gtg to work, end of questions until 11pm wisconsin time!
:)

"this working period is gona suck and be busy...knowing i have 1700$ on computer stuff in my room!

what exactly is it that you're trying to do? are you trying to assemble your system or something? could someone please tell me so i can help.

As long as they are coherent, relevant and not annoying that's ok :)

Have a look at a quick photo diary of sorts ... do note that i ****ed up and forgot to put the back plate in (mostly cuz i hate the damn things) so i had to do that a bit out of order :P ... same goes for the rear audio thingy) ... and do forgive the poor quality images ... was in a hurry and wasnt about to bust out the 1DS for a quicky little system i was building

(And before anyone asks or points it out, no it's not the same system as the one in my sig lol) :P

you make it look so easy...

first...
to get this out of the way, i have everything i need
"exept thermal paste... it didnt come with any..."
to build my computer.

I got the mother board in and started pluggin stuff in "if i could find the spot"

QUESTION: what is a CMOS jumper? do i need to bother with it?

QUESTION: my back plate that i had to put in has no slots for a moniter, and other jacks that are big... it does has mouse, keyboard, ethernet ect.
but no printer or moniter slots...where are they???????

QUESTION: My power, reset and other led cables, i know where they go but which way do they go in? they fit in bother ways and im not sure...!

that is it for now...
all help is great appresiated "sp?!:)"

you make it look so easy...
There's a reason for that ... its really not that hard :) For your first time, just take things slowly and err on the side of caution :)

"exept thermal paste... it didnt come with any..."
to build my computer.
If you're using the stock cooler, you dont have to worry about that.

QUESTION: what is a CMOS jumper? do i need to bother with it?
Look in your manual to find out where it is but u use the reset jumper to reset the CMOS/BIOS back to defaults if you screw something up there (i.e., a failed overclock). See the motherboard manual to see how to reset it

The monitor connects in a PCI/AGP/PCIE slot and as such doesnt need one (i.e., see my videocard)

QUESTION: My power, reset and other led cables, i know where they go but which way do they go in? they fit in bother ways and im not sure...!
See the manual for that :) + trial and error

See the manual for that + trial and error
So it wont fry the system if you put it in the wrong way.

also, I just plugged one of the hdd slots in the sata 1 slot and i think its good...

do i need to plug anything else into the video card?
i cant think of anything else right now
thanks!

OHOHOHO

so i dont need thermal paste if im useing the heatsink and fan that came with the processor?
it said in the manual to never use a processor without thermal paste
ill check on that though...

Well if there's a power cable to connect then that. Otherwise, no

Rule 1 = Always follow the manual
Rule 2 = Unless Praetor says otherwise
Rule 3 = See Rule 1
What the manual should say is "Never use your computer without a thermal interface material" or something to that effect. The best kind of thermal interface is generally referred to as "thermal paste" or "thermal goo" or "thermal goop" or something to that effect however there is another type of interface called a "thermal pad" (more commonly found with GPUs and RAM).

That stuff on the bottom of your heatsink is also a thermal interface material (closer to the thermal goop stuff) so you'll be ok :)

Have a look at Building Computers 101 whch may be useful to you.

UPDATE: the heatsink, yes it had goop on it after seeing residue on the cpu, so i put the heatsink in.

the harddrive has on cable going from it to the psu, the otherone goes to the mobo sata1 slot.

i dont know if i set up master and slave drive up right for my to diskdrives but ehh, the ide cable: the top piece is on the top drive, then the second drive and that goes to ise port 1 on the mobo. they both also have cable from them to the psu.

My vid card is in it pci slot and thats it, i think it has a 4pin slot for it to the psu.

none of my case fans are connected to the mobo, idk how to hook the videocard fan
the integrated sound is installed to the mobo and nothing else is ging to it.

QUESTION: I HAVE NO FLOPPYDRIVE, my mobo came with a floppy card, do i need it???

and i think thats it, as i said before, idk if i even set up the master and slave from my 2 cd drives and do i need the floppy disk that the mobo came with.

is that everything i need to install?

-Joe

edit:
yea, got the cpu & heatsinker in!

NOW, my video card has a cable that is V shaped, the point has 6 pins "i put that side in the video card"
and had 2 4pin male connecters on each point. my fans had 2 female connectors so i put the 2 male connectors from the video card in there.

so far so good, its scary putting a 400$ processor in a 120$ motherboard next to a 350$ video card....!!!!!!!

-Joe

oh and, cant forget my thankyou!
youve saved me from certian death around 4 times now and i love you "not really but you got the idea"

SATA drives dont have jumpers

PCI cards dont require extra power. PCIE cards do

Wouldnt that depend on the contents of the disk? (odds are u dont)

what about the cd drives?
i have 2 of them that are hooked up together...would it be fine if i assumed they are good?

In other news, i feel that i may be ready for a trial start up.
i figured out the powerswitch and stuff "color wire hot, plug in (+).

so do i need to do ANYTHING with jumper switches on the board before start-up.
i really hope i plug everything in...

ok, i couldnt wait, plugged it in and it cherped. the led box just said "01"
meaning???
the processor didnt turn on, neither did the heatsink fan, the case fans what is that right? "i have no moniter, im using it right now :)"
when i get a response, ill bring it up there.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeell, maybe typically, but we have these 160gigs at work with jumper pins on them, i dunno why, it startled me at first when i saw them

sounds like you missed a power cable. see PSU 101.

Oh neato. What drives? :)

k, it ran!

had to switch some fans around but it worked.
now that you guys are up,

so do i need to do ANYTHING with jumper switches on the board?
like i dunno, reseting something or anything you had to do when you buil;d your computer
