Geez guys...anyone plz tell me what to do....I purchased a Geforce5500 256mb card for a Gateway 310s. After installing the card....I started having probs...I jumped into BIOS and in the video option..there was a choice to switch from agp to pci. I changed it to PCI and now I have absolutely no pic. So even if I wanted to go back and change it I cant see what the heck Im doing!!!!! Someone plz help a noob in need. Sorry if this sounds really stupid, but I just cant get the card to wrk properly and now I really screwed up. Thanks in advance

for 30 sec can work too, or by removing the jumepers and placing it on another location for 30 sec and replacing it to the right location.

this is correct but in allot of cases it does not :). If you are in a rush then pop it for 30 seconds if it don't work pop it for 5 minutes and longer. Read your motherboard for the "correct method". Usually there is a Jumper to switch from pins 1-2 to 2-3 or something similar.

Anyway It sounds as though your video card is an AGP as I've not checked but I don't think that model comes in the PCI variety but I could easily be wrong :P. What you did was told the computer to ignore your video card which is most likely AGP and look for a PCI card instead :P. You are not however screwed :). As suggested before, Reset CMOS which will reset Bios settings. Do however read the manual for the correct procedure.

Gentlemen...thx for your help. I got desperate last night, so Since I posted from a loaner labtop that also had XP, I wrote down the number of moves it would take for me to put it back to the original settings blindly LMAO..and it worked!!! So I've updated the drivers and made sure that the intergrated graphics were disabled, but I still cant play any games. The resolution now looks like its at about 1024 x 768, however when I try to switch to higher or lower res. it stays the same. Any ideas and thx again!

Id hate to see the capacitors on the ones where it dont work :S

Hehe 5500s come in PCI :) (they go all the way to 5700LE)

You are correct sir...its a PCI. This model does not support AGP. So I'm still at a loss as to what else to do. Getting ready dont just return it and be done with it :(
