On Board Audio not working?

Recently I just had to replace my CPU because it died - the reason for this was the fan that came with the CPU was poor and therefore the CPU would constantly overheat. After enough times of this happening the CPU died so I had to replace it with another one. From all this overheating could it be possible that it may have damaged the Onboard Audio?
I ask this because I did a fresh Windows 7 installation and now no matter what I do I cannot get it to output sound. I've updated the sound drivers until I am blue in the face, I have installed ALL the drivers that came with the CD of the motherboard I have (GigaByte GA-970A-DS3 Rev 1.0) and have been on the manufacturer's website and also downloaded a sound driver from there too!
I booted up a copy of Linux I have and sound was not working on there either.
Yes, the speakers are fine! I have attempted using two different speakers and a headset. Still not getting any sound.
Can anyone help? Any information you want I will try to provide.

On board audio is enabled in BIOS by the way.
 
Does it show in device manager that the sound driver is installed properly? Any question marks next to any devices?
 
Then I would say your onboard audio chip is dead. Will need to get a dedicated sound card.
 
before i go buying a new sound card make sure that the plug for the on board audio is connected properly (if your motherboard has one. You may have unclipped it by accident when taking out your old cpu.. it happened to me on my old pc
