If I buy a motherboard with an agp slot and onboard graphics, can I put a better video card on it later? Do the onboard graphics cards play modern games typically?
Yes you can. Onboard graphics are not going to play "modern" games (well they might but the quality will be TERRIBLE). What games do you plan on playing?
none, I just dont want to be scewed in the future. Im moving out, so I figure I might get back in to the gaming thing again. But probably not, because i cant really afford 40 bucks a month for high speed internet.... going back to dial up will SUCK.
Nothing extra you can do for $40 a month? You can still game with 56K, jsut don't play online games.
But yeah, you can disable onboard graphics when you get a seperate AGP/PCI card that you want to use. I'm doing that with a friend's computer. He can't afford a card right now so i got him a mobo with onboard for small gaming and basic desktop use, and he will probably get a 9600 later on.
How do you disable the onboard card? I have a KM400 and it has serious issues with my memory, I want to use the other 32MB extern PCI card I have but it never seems to acknowledge its there.
go to control panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> Click on the video adapter, and then right click and press disable. I actually installed a new video card without disabling the onboard, and it still worked. But try that, it should work.
