Onboard memory

hi sorry abit of a noob, is the memory on a graphics card the onboard memory the same as the usual type u put in ur pc , and does it do the same jobs i.e if i have 256 mb of pc memory combined with onboard graphics of 256mb can i play games that require 512mb just to be sure.

no they can't be used like that. They work in similar fashion, but graphics card memory can only be used by the graphics card.
