Onboard sound card not working, HELP!

I just finished building my PC yesterday and I finished installing everything today. I loaded up firefox and went to youtube, strangly, no sound came out of my speakers when I clicked on a music video. I went to see if the drivers or w/e was installed. Weird, it had Realtec AC97 Audio under the SOUND, VIDEO, AND GAME CONTROLLERS. I checked for any updates but there were none. Please help! I would really not want to go and buy a sound card. Here is my MOBO

Do you have Apple's QuickTime or ITunes installed? How about RealPlayer? Many of the online videos require the latest versions. How about the default Windows sound do you hear those?
 
Tried everything, still no luck. I cannot hear anything, even the system bootup sounds. I know my speakers arent broken because I tried them on my laptop and they worked fine.
 
Did you try another set of speakers on the suspect mobo? Or a set of headphones? I'm assuming you're using the output jack on the rear I/O panel.

Have you checked all your Volume Control settings? Sounds and Audio Output Device settings? Output levels? Muted output checkbox anywhere?
 
Its AC97'. I just reinstalled drivers and still nothing, do you think i should be considering on buying a sound card at this point? My headphones and speakers are fine, I just tested them again on my laptop and they are functional. I basically am getting no sound at all, not even system sounds. I checked everywhere, nothings muted. AHHH!! this is going to make me go crazy
 
The last thing now to consider is a bad audio chip on the board! :eek: If you just received the board you can RMA it under the dealer's return poliicy fast for a replacement. That will be covered under manufacturer's warranty. Why buy a card for a bad board? :confused: Buy a card for a working board and have the onboard as a backup in case the expansion card goes... :eek: on you!
 
I agree, but when I bought my mobo, I purchaced it in a kit. It came with an AMD 64 x2 processor.... sooo yeah

Um, I went into my BIOS and set the AC97' from auto to HD Audio.. but still nothing. Any tips?

Whenever you have a duplicate post you can use the edit option to delete the duplicate. I thought I would help on that while you are still going to be in a bind if the vendor doesn't give you an exchange board to replace this one. That would be the first thing there. It's still covered under manufacturer's warranty for them regardless if it was a bundle package.
 
The second is a good one to look over on this. But even the "quick fix" for one common problem may or may not work if the chip is no good. This was also emphasized by the aurthor there. You can try it to see if you see results. But don't wait too long to contact the vendor under their time limit if they offered a return policy.
 
Yeah, I guess your right. Ill call them up sometime later. I'll tweak around with my mobo a few more times to see if the sound card really is broken.
 
Once in awhile a few boards get out with a few things goofed up on them. Last spring a friend insisted I look over a new build when nothing was seen when turning it on. The fans and lights worked with no problems but...? The replacement board sent out saw the same thing. When asked whether to have the vendor sent out a 3rd I suggested either a different model or different make and model board then. A different model chosen has been running strong ever since!

If you don't see it working soon have them replace it with same or make another choice. Realtek's AC 97 is generally the best for onboard howver. The #6 version supports EAX! That's seen exclusive with Creative Labs model cards under their trade mark for expansion cards. But the problem is either one or the other there.
