One computer slower than others on network

Hi Guys

I have a broadband Router serving the desktop computer with an RJ45 Cable. It also serves 4 computers wirelessly.
The 4 wireless computers get a download speed of around 4Mbps. The desktop used to get a similar speed but has recently (over the last week or more) dropped to around 0.5Mbps.
I would assume that the router and it's connections are fine as the wireless side is fine. I have replaced the RJ45 cable with no change.

The computer is running XP with Zonealarm and Avast AV. I have done a number of spyware and virus checks but nothing found.

Any thoughts on where I can look next?

Thanks
TT

The router could be on its way out. You said the other 4 computers are connected wirelessly not by cable. Try hooking up one of them to a cable and see if you still get the same fast speed. If not, then the router is bad.

Hi Johnb35
The router is a Netgear DGN2000.
When plugged into the laptop the wired connection still gives a connection speed of 4.8Mbps but interestingly the Number "1" turned amber.

I am moving to a new broadband supplier next week and they supply a router with the package so I will see how it works after that is installed.

Thanks

You may want to try updating the lan driver or try using a different lan card. You may have been hit by a power surge or something and it has been damaged.
