One More Question About RAM

Alright so I was doing some more research, and I because confused about something.

I was wondering whether or not to go with 16GB RAM (My original choice) or 32GB...

16GB - Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £88

32GB - G.Skill RipjawsZ 32GB (8x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 C9 1600Mhz Quad Channel Kit - £160

What I really want to know is, will there be much performance difference? And will it still be compatible with my current build? (My OS is Windows 7 64 Bit)

My current build: http://www.computerforum.com/208811-first-gaming-build.html

A gaming build today will probably use 5-6GB of RAM. This is on the highest settings and 1080p. It won't get anywhere near 16GB. And to use more than 16GB with your OS, you need windows 7 professional or higher.

And no, that would not be compatible. You would have to get 4x8GB sticks as you only have dual channel, and only 4 slots for RAM. Quad channel RAM is used on the intel X79 chipsets.

I'd say stick with the 16GB.

Once again, thank you O_o, I was just browsing and never saw a 32GB one before so I was just wondering. As you may tell I wouldn't know the parts of a computer if they were thrown at me ^_^

What do you intend to do? video editing etc?

If its a gaming build 32 Gb is really major overkill(overkill as in its pointless), 16Gb is still to much, 8Gb is (mostly) STILL to much, 4Gb is ample nowadays, but 8Gb is a recommened amount to be future proof etc!

Also the amount of RAM doesnt generally effect performance at all unless your running muliple large programmes or video editing! i have 8Gb of RAM and i rarely see it go above 30% usage even in games!

Obviously if you are running 512mb of RAM with a programme that recquires 2Gb you will see serious performance loss!

The main things that effect RAM performance are Clock speeds, 1866mhz, 1333mhz etc etc, amount (in a way) and channel(dual, triple, quad).

If you wanted to get better RAM then thing about higher clock speeds or Quad/Triple channel if your board supports it, but 16Gb is ample if not too much!

Lastly wether your Mobo or CPU support Quad channel im not sure, also depending on your type of windows (Home premium, Ultimate) CPU and Mobo you may not be able to support 32GB!

In case you were wandering (for referance)i have home premium and it supports up to 16Gb!

Hope i helped! :)

EDIT: Damn claptonman beat me to it :(

P.S. That is a NICE build you have there :O

I still value your output :P I intend to do all of the above, and thanks to you and Claptonman, you have saved me almost €100, so I would like to thank both of you. :P

Edit: is it? :O I just threw random things together that sounded nice! Hehe :P

Depends really what settings and resolution you play at. For BF3 at ultra and 1080p, it constantly goes above 4GB of RAM. The difference between 4GB and 8G is like $10-15, so its a no brainer.

Your welcome!:D and yes it is, id kill for it! ;) (and btw yes Homepremium supports up to 16Gb)

ahh okay claptonman, thatd be why, i dont play many demanding games on the PC yet! but your right the price difference makes it unquestionable!
