Clear your CMOS and see if that does anything.

Yes, the computer still operates on the xp home ed that is installed. Although it doesnt automatically boot as i have to press F1(continue) form the bios screen when it starts up and then it is very slow to boot.
But when up and running it is fine.
What software would be missing for it to be unable to read software disks? Surely that should be on the mobo memory.

Why do you have to hit F1 to get it to load winodows? Does it give you an error?

Try running a CD/DVD lens cleaner in your drive. It sounds like it may be dirty or the drive motor could be failing.

no error given, for some reason it just stops at that screen.
the only thing that is different to the initial set up is that i have removed the floppy drive

i knew there was something i was meant to buy today. will try that tomorrow.

Just purchased a lens cleaning disk, only trouble is machine will not read the music or play the disk. Think I'm stumped any ideas?
