One step Down from the 8800

Now I know that the 8800 series is the best for DX 10 and stuff..

But i'm not plopping 300 bucks for the cheapest card. I want to take one step down from the 8800. Would it be the 8600 GTS or would it be something from ATI or something. Will one step down work Vista ok? Will it last me 3-4 years? And if i do go with the 8800, how long will it take to drop to around 200 bucks.

Thanks.

if you want a cheap nice gpu get a 7900 gs. For about 130 $$ you can get better than average performance fairly cheaply.

By last do you mean play the top of the line games at normal-maximum settings, or just be pretty good. Not even the 8800gts will last you that long at the rate the market is going at. The 8800gts 320mb should be dropping in that range by the end of this year since Nvidia is planning on releasing a new line every year.

Then I think ima wait a lil bit cuz i wanna run DX 10 and the 8800 GT is good 4 that. Right?

edit:
Also do I necessarily need DX10 for the next maybe 3 years if i'm not a crazy gamer. I mean sure i play CS...xP lol

8800 is not best for dx 10 lol, it blow with dx10. This series is best for DX9, the real card thats design for dx10 would be G90 and r700. It wouldn't last u for 3-4 years. 3-4 monthes maybe until real dx10 card start to show them self in the market. If u really looking for a more future proof card wait for G90 which suppose to be release november this years. If u r only looking to game at mid low resolution then u can buy a 8800gts 320 for now and forget about the 8600. But if u hoping to get a card that can last u atleast 2 years in dx10waiting is ur best bet while get a decent dx9(7900gs/1950pro) card would be the best solution.
