one strange networking problem

since this is my first post, let me start by saying hello.

now to my problem. I am working with my small home network (LAN), which has 3 computers. 2 of the computers can connect to the internet, one can not. even though the one can't connect to the internet, it still has connection to the network, and the software KM switch that I use for 2 of them, which runs over a TCP/IP network.

I'm not a major genius in the art of networking, and I've tried everything I can think of.

Hi,

Really we need alot more info. First check network connections / properties / tcp-ip, is everything set to automatic or manual. Everything should be the same except for the IP address which has to be unique. Also check network lights, and ping some things, doesn't matter what, see what you can talk to and what you can't

If you want to make it easier do start button / run / msinfo32, under file, export the log and post both a working and the faulty one, the problem may be quite aparant.

sorry for my lack of a response...

my system:

Compaq Presario
Windows Vista home Premium 32-bit w/ SP1
AMD Athlon Dual Core processor 4450e 230 GHz
3 GB RAM
250GB hard drive
Nvidia 10/100 mbps network controller

I am using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router, but all PCs are hardwired

here is what I've found.

under MSINFO32, there is no info for my ethernet modem...

I have reinstalled all factory drivers, but all of my modem drivers are PCI, so they are probably not the right ones...

I can ping PCs in my network, and over the internet, but nothing will acces the internet...
I can also access all of the computers in my network, but nothing outside of my network.

I have found through some research, that there have been some problems very similar to mine among other users with Vista and the router that I use, especially after the installation of certain windows updates..

I'm currently trying to upgrade my router firmware, but the downloads on the linksys site seem to be having problems.

Some times flashing the firmware in the bios and or resetting it to factory defaults can fix a lot with router issues. Have you tried any of these?

If the problem persists even after upgrading or reflashing the firmware. Try with a New SSID and channel (1,6,11) and try with different security type. WEP and WPA. 1st go with WEP because it is supported by all wireless devices
